International Women's Day 2017
It has been a busy yet informative day with a powerful message delivered to our pupils that they can achieve whatever they set their minds to.
Gillian Hamilton (SCEL) began the day addressing the assembled pupils. A variety of workshops were then available:
Women in Health (Ruth Beattie, St Andrews Hospice)
STEMette IWD film and discussion (Ms Keir, CHS)
Women have power to stand up (Womens Aid)
Women in policing (Gary Balfour, CHS)
Stereotypes and the media (Hannah Brown, LRC)
The senior drama students performed a powerful drama featuring women who have brought about change, Emmeline Pankhurst, Rosa Parks and Malala accompanied by Megan Frame on guitar singing "The times they are a changing".
A few of our female staff had recorded short video messages of encouragement before Judith Gillespie CBE closed the morning with her address which had the audience sitting captivated by her experiences of working in the RUC.
Many thanks to our guest for making this such a special day and the Mr Shearer and his team of helpers who organised the event.
