Full-Fat Milk Ban for 3yr Olds
Most doctors say that children should have full fat milk until they are five, giving them the nutrients and fat they need to grow. Now though, the Scottish Government are trying to block children from drinking whole milk, in a bid to stop obesity.
Primary and Secondary schools are being prevented from supplying whole milk, because of a Scottish Government directive. Instead they are being given semi-skimmed and skimmed milk, which some say should only be used by adults as it lacks some of the nutrients required for healthy development.
Children as young as three have been given semi-skimmed because of obesity threats in Britain. The government have been trying very hard to stop obesity in our children, and this is one of their more recent ideas to stop the growing health problem. Three year old children should not be given this milk, most experts say, as they are being rejected a chance to have the vitamins and nutrients they need.
Some nurseries in Aberdeen and Argyll have already made the change, and are serving semi-skimmed to under-fives. Schools in Lancashire have already axed whole milk in their schools because decision, but they are still against nurseries banning whole milk. The change will also save money, which is an added bonus.
