Scotland Rugby Union Scout for Success
Lanarkshire teenager, Ross aged 17 years, has been selected to represent his national team during the Millfield International Festival in April. This tournament will take place in Somerset in England and Ross will be competing against the England A, Wales A and Belgium teams over the course of eight days.
Ross currently represents Hamilton Academical Rugby Football Club. The talented teenager from Hamilton was invited to take part in trials firstly for Lanarkshire District and then Glasgow with whom he competed against Edinburgh and the Highlands.
Over the past year Scotland scouts became aware of Ross and approached him at a recent tournament. "It was a huge shock and my mum and dad were both really proud," Ross explained. His love of the sport began when he was only five years old and Ross explained that the most appealing aspect of the game was the social interaction within this team sport. Ross’ parents have always been extremely supportive of his rugby ambitions and are heavily involved with Hamilton Academic Rugby Football Club (H. A. R. F. C.) including fund-raising activities.
Ross, a senior pupil at Calderside Academy, is currently studying for his Higher Examinations. This tournament takes places just weeks before these examinations but Ross is confident that he will successfully manage his studies. “Ross is an exemplary pupil and we are extremely proud of his achievements,” explained Margaret Morris, Headteacher at Calderside Academy. Ross hopes that this will lead to further opportunities to travel and see the world as he flies the national flag of success.
