Welcome to our BBC School Report page. The following articles relate to school news and current affairs from the perspective of pupils at Carluke High School.

This project is in collaboration with the BBC and with other schools across the United Kingdom.

This is the third year pupils have taken part in the project.

 


 


Ali Crawford - What is it like to be a professional footballer?

We posed this question to Ali Crawford, an ex pupil of Carluke High School who now plays for Hamilton Accies. He told us that he couldn’t think of anything better than getting paid to play football as he has kicked a ball since he was able to stand up!

High School Pupils Design Murals for New Health Centre

The NHS has just opened a new health centre in Carluke costing a massive £14million to build. Carluke High School was asked if they wanted to get a group of pupils together to create two murals, to adorn the white walls upstairs and downstairs. The school said yes and a lady called Ms Lamb came in for two days of hard print making with a handful of S2 pupils.

Carluke High Meet the Gazette

Carluke high School pupils were lucky to have the opportunity to have met real life reporters. The pupils met reporters from Carluke Gazette. It was a great opportunity to meet a reporter, photographer and editor!

Old Firm Bust-up

On Wednesday the 2nd of March the Old Firm met in which turned out to be one of the most heated derby’s in the last 5 years. This dreadful display made us question the effect this might have on young people. Are these people really role models? If so, should they be penalised?

Reading Club

On Friday lunchtimes a group of about ten second year pupils come to the school Library to participate in the reading club. The Reading Club is held by our Librarian Mrs Martin, who is ably assisted by Mrs Smith, a teacher in the English Department.

Ramsay Challenge 

At Carluke High School every year, all second year pupils are involved in a class competition from January onwards to create and make a sausage to extend Ramsay’s of Carluke’s current product range. This allows pupils to be involved in looking at new product development. The pupils all worked in pairs and came up with both strange and tasty ideas.

Christ Church Earthquake

This tragedy occurred on the 26th of February 2011. It has claimed over 148 people and there are still 200 missing but the rescuers have decided that it is time to give up after five long tragic days, but there’s always hope that these poor people could still survive and somehow they could get free from the rubble.

Fairtrade

From the 28th of February 2011 to the 13th of March 2011 it was "Show off your Label" Fairtrade Fortnight. The Fairtrade group in Carluke High School and other places all over the world helped to promote this event.

Blood Brothers

As we embarked on our trip to the Edinburgh Playhouse, I wondered why all the fuss about this long running musical now on its Silver Anniversary. I wondered how Willy Russell’s gripping play could transfer to the stage and why so many people rave about it, many seeing it several times over and never tiring of it.
