Advanced Higher Coursework

  • Pupils learn two instruments of their choice and aim to perform at a minimum of Grade 5 standard
  • They must compose two pieces of music lasting a minimum of 2 minutes 30 secs
  • Listening course is a continuation of the Higher syllabus
  • An Analytical Commentary of approximately 1,500 words with score and audio examples has to be completed, comparing two similar pieces of music.

Pupils are required to sit one formal listening exam at the end of their 4th year for Intermediate 1 and 2.

Practical exams can take place anytime during the months of May and June.

Composition is not graded but must be passed to enable the student  to complete the course.
