Eco-Group

The Eco Group meet at lunchtimes on a Friday in the Science Department.  This group carried out the environmental review for this year, which involved looking at ten main areas:

  • Litter
  • Energy
  • Water
  • Waste minimisation
  • School grounds
  • Fair trade
  • Recycling
  • Transport
  • Biodiversity
  • Health & Well being

This resulted in a summary which then allowed us to identify some main action points.

Eco Committee

The Eco Committee is a mixture of people who were nominated and volunteers. A number of the committee are also members of the Eco Group which meets every Friday in room A203.

The Eco Committee meet twice a term together with staff members, to discuss the way forward for the group.
A number of the ideas put to the committee come from the Friday group, e.g. the energy monitoring project.

The Committee members are : Craig Johnston, Kirsty Rodger, Hannah Robertson, Mhairi McCulloch, Stephen McBride, Greg Pollock, Robert Cunningham,  Gillian Waddell, Mr Jamil, Miss Courtney, Mr Roberts and Mrs Harper

This year we have concentrated mainly on litter and the values project, recycling, energy and the school grounds.

This year our Eco Code was the result of work carried out in PSE classes.

Eco Garden

As a new school is being built the Eco Group wanted to make a contribution and so we designed the third courtyard. You may not have heard of this phantom garden but do not worry we are not kidding you on. There is a garden on the other side of the school and only a selected group have seen the designs.

The group consisted of the winners of the first two courtyard designs and a runner up, some 5th and 6th years and some Eco group representatives. The garden consists of a rockery, a herb garden and some seating areas.

Rag Bag Day

Rag Bag Day 2010

This year we raised the sum of £72.  These funds will go towards the Eco projects throughout the school.

 Rag Bag Day 2009

We raised £60.60 in September 2009.

We collected items from as early as 8am until 8.55am. The items were stored in the conference rooms until such times as the company came to collect it later on in the day.

The money was put towards things required to make the school make environmentally friendly.
