What We Do

Fairtrade Events

The Fairtrade group have organised a number of events over the last two years. The following are three we have selected for submission. We feel these are three of our most successful events and hope to be organising each of these annually.

1. Staff Coffee Mornings:
For the fourth year running the group organised a free Fairtrade coffee morning for all staff, during Fairtrade fortnight. The group, staff and pupils, offered a selection of Fairtrade cakes, biscuits and fruit. Fairtrade tea and coffee was served and Fairtrade flowers were on display to show the variety of Fairtrade products that are available. We also offered free samples of Fairtrade teas that staff could take away with them. We hoped after sampling these products staff would be more likely to buy Fairtrade goods on a regular basis. The coffee morning was successful and marked the end of our Fairtrade Fortnight activities.

2. Enterprise Evening:
As part of the schools on going commitment to Enterprise the Fairtrade group was asked to take part in an Enterprise evening for parents and pupils. The group set up a stall, selling a variety of Fairtrade products. The products from the stall were provided by “The One World Shop” Glasgow. Posters were displayed to show customers the benefits of buying Fairtrade products and leaflets were distributed to encourage parents, pupils and teachers to visit the stall.

As well as setting up the stall the group also set up a Fairtrade Coffee shop. Fairtrade teas and coffees were available to buy as well as a selection of Fairtrade fruit to sample. The stall and coffee shop have been set up at all Parents Evenings in our bid to promote Fairtrade in Carluke High and the wider community. (Photos included)

3. Sponsored Fast:
To raise funds for running our events both staff and pupils from the group took part in a sponsored fast. We aimed to raise funds and awareness by collecting sponsor money from pupils, staff and parents. During the fast we wanted to reflect on those less fortunate and reflect on the importance of Fairtrade for those Third World producers.

4. Fairtrade Fortnight:
We will take part in Fairtrade Fortnight from 28th February to 13th March 2011. We will be taking part in assemblies and selling fairtrade goods.
We will also be visiting classes to promote Fairtrade issues and events.
