Holocaust Memorial Day
Carluke High School Remembers Holocaust Memorial Day
Holocaust Memorial Day is a day to remember the people that were victims of the genocide of World War 2. This was a time when over 6,000,000 Jews were killed just because they were a different religion. That is why we celebrate Holocaust Memorial Day every year- to remember those killed between 1939 and 1945. It was known as the deadliest conflict in history
The war was because of one man that was partly that religion and his name was Adolf Hitler. Ironically, Hitler's grandparents were of Jewish descent. Because of this people have become very confused as to why Hitler chose to persecute a group of people based on a religion which he himself had close connections with.
Here at Carluke High School we had an assembly about Holocaust Memorial Day. We celebrated in a number of different ways. For example, we had poems, music, power points, information and people coming out the front to read their point of view. My point of view in all of this is why did Hitler do this? Why did he ruin peoples life's and why did he do what he did when he was really close to the Jewish community? But that is in the past it must stay there but that does not mean to say we do not remember those who died and those who lost people in their family. We have found out that 1.5 million Jewish children were murdered under the Nazi regime
Many people lost most of their family due to the war.
I personally have had a first hand experience going to Auswitz. As you walk through the gates you get a fear that the long gone ghosts are haunting you, I got the fright of my life. At one point I even thought I felt something touching me on my shoulder. I gives you such a fright. As I walked I tried to get away from the electric gates - they were everywhere.. If I tried to look for my parents I had to look though the barbed wire thinking back to when the camps were in action people trying to jump the gates not knowing that they were electric, they jumped and within seconds they were dead.
Nowadays we need to think how lucky we are not to be a part of the war back in the olden days and when your grandparents try to tell you about the war you should listen.
