Commonwealth Games

Have you got the stealth for the Commonwealth?

14/02/2013

By Dylan

More than 10,000 people have put their name down to be volunteers at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow within hours of a recruitment drive being launched. However, they are still searching for further volunteers and YOU could have the chance to be part of the Commonwealth Games

The organisers of the games are searching high and low for talented people, young and old, who are interested in unpaid Games Maker roles behind the scenes at the games. There are still a massive 15,000 people still needed to fill these spaces!

If this sounds like something you would like to get involved with then there are a number of things you will need to know first of all about the general roles that are available during the duration of the Commonwealth Games. Just imagine, you could be a volunteer welcoming the remarkable athletes to the Games. Or you could help out at the athletes' village and at the different Games venues.

The organiser of the Games, Glasgow 2014 also requires people with a lot of good skills. You could become a member of the medical team, a driver, or just someone who could bring more sports expertise to the Games. The opportunities are endless!

Olympic gold boxing winner, Anthony Joshua, helped launch the recruitment drive at Glasgow's Central Station one Monday morning, along with Scottish badminton player Susan Egelstaff and the Games Maker choir. Also, Glasgow 2014 chief executive David Grevemberg said more than 10,000 people had applied by late afternoon.

He added: "We have been delighted by the initial response to our call for volunteers for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. I am happy to say that the volunteering spirit is definitely alive and well and we have had more than 10,000 people apply within the first 12 hours.

Although no previous games experience is necessary, hopefuls must be at least 16 years old and eligible to work in the UK. Does this sound like you?

"But don't worry if you have still to apply, the window is open until 28 February and all applications will be considered then. Don't just watch the games, this is your chance to be the Games and have the time of your life putting Glasgow, Scotland and the Commonwealth on the world stage.
