The History of Milton House

Milton Lockhart House was built in 1829 by William Lockhart who was an MP for the County.

The Lockhart family retained Milton Lockhart until World War 2 when the condition of the house started deteriorating.

In the 1980s a Japanese businessman transported the building stone by stone to Japan to rebuild it as a tourist attraction.

The Milton Lockhart Gardens can still be visited to this day.

Miss Agnes R. Orrock ran her business from Station Road, Carluke between 1907 and 1914 in the gardens of the Estate.

It was built in the early nineteenth century and modelled on Bothwell Bridge, the three arched Milton Bridge with gatehouse carried the driveway into the Lockhart Estate.
